Dr. Anahit Hakoupian is a Professor of Teaching in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at the University of Southern California, where she has been ranked #1 within the top ten faculty across the university. She earned her Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Southern California. Over her career, she has taught a wide range of Spanish language, literature, and culture courses and has mentored more than eighty junior faculty across USC and UCLA.

Dr. Hakoupian has presented her work at numerous international and national conferences, including the University of Hawaii International Conference and the International Conference on Education, Social Science, Art & Humanities. Her scholarship appears in refereed journals such as the International Journal of Humanities and Social Science, the Social Science and Humanities Research Bulletin, and the International Journal of Arts, Humanities & Social Science.

During her career, Dr. Hakoupian has published extensively on communicative language teaching, human-centered pedagogy, and low-tech approaches to second language instruction. Her recent articles include The Absence of the White Elephant in the Language Classroom: Pedagogical Implications for Second Language Instruction in a Low-Tech Environment (2025). She has also served as Chair and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board for Trojan Bloom, USC’s multilingual literary journal, where she guides editorial policies and mentors student contributors.

Dr. Hakoupian’s contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Excellence in Foreign Language Teaching Award and the 2025 Dornsife Faculty Development Fund Award. She has also played a vital role in community outreach, establishing the Raúl Aguirre Memorial Scholarship and working with organizations such as We Care for Youth, CARECEN, and the USC Neighborhood Academic Initiative. Her most recent research focuses on rethinking technology-free learning environments in second language acquisition.
