Datura Stramonium L. - Narcotic, Anodyne or Poison?

Abstract
The plant species Daturastramonium L.,which is a member of the Solanaceae family was well known to the
Greeks and Romans as a soporific, narcotic and anodyne. Modern pharmacology and phytochemistry ascribe
these properties to the plant’s possession of with tropane alkaloids. We can now understand how the ancient
herbalists determined a particular dosage to achieve a desired effect.
