Abstract
This is a presentation of research concerning the development and validation of a 26 item measure of
Compassion of Others’ Lives. The Compassion of Others’ Lives Scale (COOL scale) was developed and validated
in 2 studies with a total of 355 participants. Data was collected in the United States from students at a northeast
Pennsylvania college campus. Results indicated that the COOL scale has a high internal consistency. Test-retest
suggests excellent reliability; convergent and discriminate validity confirmed the 2 subtests of the COOL scale to
measure the constructs of compassion. The implications for the COOL scale are discussed.
