The Quality of Basic Education in 2000s: The Brazilian Case
Professor Debora Cristina Jeffrey
Abstract
From the analysis of official documents relating to federal national education, it became clear that the right to
education has been legitimized with the expansion of schooling and guarantee of enrollment in basic education,
with the establishment of its requirement in broader age range while the quality of education has been secured
from the definition of educational objectives through monitoring indicators. The documentary research
contributes to the analysis of the Brazilian educational context in the 2000s, from the perspective of the context of
text production and the effects of these guidelines to the right to compulsory education and universalization of
basic education in Brazil.
