The Dilemma of Investment Decision for Small Investors in the Hong Kong Derivatives Markets

Abstract
This paper, using a survey, makes an attempt to investigate the dilemma of investment decision for small investors in the Hong Kong derivatives markets. The observation period for the survey covers the most turbulent period of the economic crisis of January 2011-January 2012, which happened in Hong Kong. The survey was conducted from 31stJanuary 2012 to 15th March 2012. A non-probability sampling method was applied to select individuals aged 18 or above from the population of Hong Kong. The objective of this study is to examine the key factors (determinants) and the dilemma of investment decision that affect Hong Kong small investors. This paper addresses the determinants of possible ways to measure the level of investment decision.
