Abstract
Business fiction has not been given due attention though there are many novels that are shelved under such categ ory. The Three Signs of a Miserable Job: A Fable for Managers and Their Employees (2007) by Patrick Lencioni, an American CEO and writer, belongs to this category. He introduces a model which tackles the reasons of job misery and how to overcome them. He explains there are three signs of job misery: Anonymity, irrelevance, and i mmeasurement. The aim of this paper is to examine how his model succeeds in overcoming job misery. This is goi ng to be carried out by applying Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan’s theory of self-determination in relation t o transformational leadership. This model succeeds because it satisfies the three basic needs of human beings.
