Abstract
The study aimed at revealing the level of cognitive and linguistic concepts of the pre-school children stage in
Jordan and its relation to gender and kindergarten enrollment. To achieve the objectives of the study, the
researchers built a test for the cognitive and linguistic capabilities of the pre-school children. After the test’s
validity and reliability had been assured, the researchers applied the test on a sample consisting of 577 child
whose age ranged from 3 to 5 years in Amman Governorate. Results showed the children’s level of linguistic and
concept development was high in general. There was lack of statistically significant differences attributed to
gender variable according to the general conceptual level but at the same time there were still some fields where
females showed their superiority. There were also statistically significant differences attributed to kindergarten
enrollment variable as the results were in favour of the children who joined kindergarten compared with children
who did not.
