Introduction
This visual essay is an exploration of the art, performance, and visual iconography associated with the
BlackLivesMatter social movement organization.[1]Here I examine art that is used to protest and draw awareness
to extrajudicial violence and the “increasingly militarized systems of killer cops…in the United States of
America.”[2]In this review, secondary themes of racism, dehumanization, racial profiling and political and
economic injustice will also be highlighted.
